Some of the children asked if we could make pizzas as they had found the recipe in a cookbook. After helping to write a shopping list the ingredients were purchased. The children helped to make the pizzas, using equipment carefully and safely. They enjoyed eating the pizzas. Lots of the children said it was delicious. Great cooking children!
The Big Bad Wolf
The children have been enjoying reading the story “The Wolf’s Pancakes” this week. They were very excited when one day the wolf left a letter in the classroom. This prompted lots of wonderful mark making and imaginative vocabulary. The children thought of lots of ways to keep the wolf out of Nursery!
Pancake Day in Nursery
The children have been enjoying the story ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes’ this week. They all helped to make pancakes on Tuesday. They measured, mixed and whisked. They squeezed some lemon juice to have as a topping. They chose what topping they wanted from biscuit spread, lemon juice, blueberries or bananas. The children really enjoyed eating the pancakes. They have been using the recipe to recreate the pancakes in the play dough area and the home corner.
Valentine’s Baking
The children in Nursery have been very busy baking and creating this week. They have baked and decorated love heart biscuits. The children helped to weigh, mix, roll and cut out the biscuits. All the children agreed they were delicious. This led to some of the children recreating this by using the recipe to act out all the stages of making the biscuits in the home corner.
The children also made their own sandwich each to eat before their Valentine’s disco. The children were fantastic at doing this independently, buttering and slicing the bread and selecting their own filling. Our children are developing some great skills in the kitchen.
Our 110th Birthday
The children in Nursery enjoyed celebrating the school’s 110th birthday. They played some traditional games such as skittles and pick up sticks. They also played some parlour games such as ‘Pass the Slipper’. The children helped to make a delicious Victoria sponge cake and really enjoyed eating it.
Magical Train Ride
This week the children in Nursery have been reading the story, “The Train Ride”. We went on a magical train ride, each child received a ticket and went on an exciting journey. The children used imaginative language to describe what they could see along the way. They saw dinosaurs, dragons, bears and the Big Bad Wolf. The next day we wrote class stories and the children again came up with some fantastic ideas.
Winter Weather
The children in Nursery made the most of the winter weather last week. They enjoyed playing outside, investigating ice and how to break it. They talked about what it felt like and looked like. They built a fantastic shelter to protect them from the rain and cold. Some of the toys were frozen in ice and they had to work hard to free them, this led to predictions, investigations and experimenting. At the end of the week, the children had great fun out in the snow, making snowmen, digging and making snow food.
Chinese New Year
This week in school we are celebrating Chinese New Year or should we say it in Chinese, Kung hei fat choy!
On Monday it was a great start to the celebrations of Chinese New Year because Michael, a good friend of the school brought along his Chinese Lions and told the legendary story of the Ghost Lion to the children. Every child in the school took part in this wonderful assembly including the nursery children. They answered lots of questions and were picked to either perform the lion’s dance or beat the drums. This good luck dance was very well received by the children and all were keen to participate.
Thank you Michael for a fantastic morning.
New Starters
Our new starters have settled in well to Nursery. It has been lovely to see them exploring their new surroundings and making friends. We have also welcomed 2 year olds to Nursery. They have been having lots of fun. It has been wonderful to see how the other children have looked after them all, being so kind and helpful!
Week ending 14th December
The children have had great fun in Nursery this week. They have been fascinated by some large boxes and tubes. They experimented with making sounds in the tube and also turned it into a train. They enjoyed making holes in the large box using paintbrushes and then painting it. This has been great for strengthening the children’s arms and shoulders.
