Stay and Play

October 25, 2019 by admin

It was wonderful to welcome families into nursery for stay and play.  The children loved having the chance to show them around, play with them and even show off their dough disco moves.  The children are so settled and happy in nursery and it was lovely to share this with everyone who came.

Autumn in Nursery

October 23, 2019 by admin

This week in nursery we have been learning all about autumn.  The children have hunted for leaves and signs of autumn outside, using their observation skills and discussing what they had found using the language of colour and size.  Our carrots were ready to harvest so we used these to make a carrot cake.  The children peeled and grated the carrots themselves, using tools safely.  They measured and mixed the ingredients and decorated it when it was ready.  They really enjoyed eating it and trying something new.  We have also planted some spring bulbs; the children can’t wait to watch these grow!

New Starters

October 23, 2019 by admin

The children have settled in really well to Nursery during their first two weeks.  Our new 2 and 3 year old starters have been having a great time exploring their new surroundings and learning new skills.  It has also been lovely to welcome back our returning children and to see how much they have grown up over the summer holidays; they have been wonderful at looking after our new starters.  We are excited to see what adventures the children get up to over the coming year.

We’re going on a bear hunt

October 23, 2019 by admin

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt…we’re going to catch a big one!

This week the children in Nursery have loved listening to the story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”.  They have taken part in bear hunts around the nursery and outside, looking for signs of where the bear has been.  The children have had some really imaginative ideas for trapping and catching the bear and have also been drawing some pictures of the bear.

The children have really got to know the story and have been fantastic at retelling the story using some wonderful language.

It has been lovely to see the excitement and imagination from all the children!

Performing

July 15, 2019 by admin

The Nursery children have been showing some interest in singing and performing their own songs so we made a stage for them in the outdoors area.  They have been entertaining us with their songs and dances and have been turning various items into instruments.  Their confidence when  performing has been fantastic!

Paper Aeroplanes

July 15, 2019 by admin

The children in nursery have taken a great interest in paper aeroplanes.  We put a hoop on the wall and the children practiced aiming and throwing their aeroplanes through the hoop.  They changed strategy and perfected their technique each time.  We then tested out aeroplanes made of paper or card and decided that card was the best material to make them out from.  Some of the children then wrote and read messages that were sent on the planes, using their blending and segmenting skills.  The children have had great fun developing their gross motor skills and using skills of prediction and reasoning.

Deconstructed Role Play

July 15, 2019 by admin

The role-play area in nursery has been transformed into a deconstructed role play area.  Deconstructed role play allows children to fully engage in the role play experience with no limitations placed on their imaginations.  The children can transform it into whatever they like.  They are provided with cardboard boxes that they can draw on and use to make into something.  They are also given blank pillowcases that they can draw on to create their own costumes.

It creates a language rich learning space where children can interact with one another, sharing ideas and developing their own storylines and narratives.  The children are completely free to follow their interests.

We have had some wonderful ideas from the children and it has been transformed into fire engines, a kitchen for a chef, space rockets and a dinosaur land so far.
