Well done everyone. The children are doing really well with Mathletics and many people are getting certificates each week. Lets continue with this, and if you or your child needs any help accessing Mathletics please ask your class teacher or Mathletics lead, Mr Cuthbertson. Thank you.
PDSA
On Friday 15th January we had a visit from Tina who works for PDSA. She talked to each class about how they help people in need by providing free vet services to their sick and injured animals, and promoting responsible pet ownership. The children enjoyed learning new things about PDSA and were rewarded with booklets, gifts and stickers.
Awards Assembly
18th December 2015
Our final assembly of 2015 was a celebration of all the achievements this term. Every child received a certificate related to successes in reading, writing, maths, behaviour, attitude, caring for others and many other areas. We had 36 children with 100% attendance and the overall school attendance was 97% – excellent!
Christingle Service
17th December 2015
We held our annual Christingle Service in our school hall on Thursday. The Year 2 children read their parts and explained why we participate in this lovely service that originates from Moravia.
Christingle means ‘Christ light’ and is used to celebrate Jesus Christ as the light of the world. The orange symbolises the world, the red ribbon is Jesus’ blood and the four cocktail sticks symbolises the seasons. The sweets are symbols of Goods gifts of love. We sang and the children thought about children in the world who are less fortunate and how basic needs are not met like food and shelter.
Christmas Party Day including Punch & Judy and Santa visit!
16th December 2015
This week we have had our Christmas Party. We started off the day with a hilarious Punch and Judy show followed by party games. On the afternoon the children had a party food feast. A fun time was had by all and the behaviour of all children was outstanding as always.
Tim Peake launch
15th December 2015
We were lucky enough to witness the British astronaut Tim Peake launch into space to begin his 6 months stay on board the International Space Station. All of the children have been thinking about what life would be like in space and were extremely excited to watch the rocket take off from Kazakhstan. We will be keeping track of Tim’s adventure in space, and hope to link this to science work across the school.
Carol singing at Woodhouse Close Library
11th December 2015
We had our annual trip to Woodhouse Close library to sing carols. As regular visitors, the children from Year 2 felt comfortable singing for the staff and audience. They certainly all brought their best singing voice with them. Well done!
Nativity
8th & 9th December 2015
All of the children in classes 1 and 2 have worked very hard in preparation for our nativity ‘Away in a Manger’. They all did a fantastic job performing for various audiences. Well done everyone!
Some of the children from classes 1 and 2 visited Eden House care home to sing song from the nativity. The residents really enjoyed watching the children and they joined in with the familiar songs.
Carol Singing at March Hare
7th December 2015
A ‘choir’ of reception, year 1 and year 2 children visited the March Hare on the afternoon. They entertained diners from different community groups who were enjoying their Christmas dinners. Everyone was so appreciative and complimented the children on their singing, behaviour and good manners.
Bling Your Bike
3rd December 2015
Rio Floreza was in school for the ‘Bling your bike or scooter’ competition. We would like to thank everybody who put the time and effort into ‘blinging’ their bikes. We were overwhelmed with the number of entries, especially on such a wet and windy day! The unenviable task of choosing a winner was left to Rio, who was impressed with the number and quality of the entries. We would like to say a big congratulations to Scarlett who not only won best in school, but went on to win the overall prize which was a new bike kindly supplied by Sustrans and Inspiral Cycles in Bishop Auckland.
