Today we noticed that some of the children were running around the yard trying to catch their shadows. We brought out some interesting resources to encourage ‘talk’ about shadows. The children were fascinated by the coloured blocks cascading the colour on to the yard and we talked about why this happened. The children began to draw around Miss. Dixon’s shadow and then all of a sudden it disappeared from the yard. Lots of the children wondered where it had gone and some of them looked straight up into the sky and realised that the sun was hidden behind some clouds. This work continued on into the afternoon and some lovely team work was shown from the children. They found a partner and took turns to draw around their shadow, trying to make interesting shapes with their bodies. We also lined up the dinosaurs to look at the interesting shadows that were made.
