We’ve been very busy in Reception this week! The children are beginning to get excited about Halloween and have been very interested in the pumpkins and ‘munchkins’ in the classroom. We wondered what we could do with the pumpkins and decided we could make pumpkin soup. We began by finding a recipe and we read through this together. From this we wrote a shopping list for all of the ingredients and the children were very keen to write their own lists during continuous provision time. We counted some of our left over snack money ready to take to ASDA and we checked the weather forecast to see which day would be best. On Tuesday we all walked to ASDA armed with our shopping lists and bags. The children’s behaviour was excellent and they were very good at finding all of the items on the shopping list. One of the children asked if we could put some pennies in the guide dog charity box so we used our change from the shopping to help. Back at school there was lots of peeling and chopping to be done which was hard work but the children were able to do this, showing lots of perseverance. When it was finally cooked we all enjoyed dipping our bread into the soup and the children thought it was delicious. There were lots of hands up for more! We sat around in a circle together and listened to the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’. What an exciting week!
