Teamwork within STEM Curriculum

January 29, 2018 by admin

29/01/18

Teamwork was the order of the day during some Year 2 STEM work. The children were put into teams and given as many balloons and as much masking tape as they desired. Their challenge was to build a tower as tall as possible using these materials. Before beginning their task they were given some time to design their tower and were also reminded about our previous work regarding emotional intelligence. We discussed how to recognise emotions in others, how to show empathy and how to compromise.

At the end of the activity we utilised thinking hats to assess how well the activity went for their team, judging not just the final product but their work together.

Remembrance Day

November 18, 2017 by admin

On Friday 10th November the Year 2 children spent some time outside talking about the reason we have ‘Remembrance Day’. The children had made poppies in class and made a display on the school field which our Chair of Governors, Helen Haley said looked, “fantastic” she also stayed while we all had a minute silence.

Durham Cathedral – Year 2

October 20, 2017 by admin

We had a fantastic day at Durham cathedral on Tuesday. We went on the bus and then walked up to the Cathedral. We met out tour guides then walked around the Cathedral in two groups. The children answered questions about Saint Cuthbert and our guide was very impressed with their knowledge. We enjoyed a lovely packed lunch in the Cloisters then continued our learning with some observational drawing on the afternoon. The children’s behaviour was outstanding and this was commented on several times by various members of the public! This always makes us feel very proud of our children. A super day, well done Year 2 children!

Litter Survey

April 3, 2017 by admin

The children in Class 5 went outside to look for litter in our school grounds. We talked about where the bin were placed and checked if they were being used. The children were all pleased to find that there was not very much litter in our school grounds. We did notice that a lot of litter we found had blown in from outside school, and went on to design posters asking people to pick up their litter.

Paul Klee an abstract artist

March 30, 2017 by admin

We have been learning about the artist Paul Klee who said a line was a dot that went for a walk. The children looked at his paintings then created their own abstract pieces of work. The class display is lovely.

Fairtrade Coffee Afternoon

March 22, 2017 by admin

On Thursday 16th March we celebrated Fairtrade day in school. Class 5 enjoyed taking part in a carousel of activities about fairtrade foods and Brazil (the country we had been learning about over this week). Most children’s favourite part was making their own fairtrade banana and strawberry milkshakes with Mr Raine! It was fantastic to see so many parents coming into the classroom, joining in the activities and supporting our Fairtrade coffee and cake fundraiser!
