Maths – Number Investigation Game

November 5, 2015 by admin

Year 2 have been playing a number investigation game, using a number line to 20. They had to follow the rules to try and beat their partner.

  • Player 1 chooses a number on the line and crosses it out.
  • They then choose a second number and cross that out too.
  • Finally they calculate the answer and circle it.
  • Player 2 must start the same process with the circled number. The winner is the one that stops their partner from going.

Literacy – Sequencing a story

November 5, 2015 by admin

In keeping with our topic of Ancient Egypt the children have been acting out the story of Tutankhamen. The focus was on using expression to read their lines to engage the audience. They also had to work hard as part of a team to sequence the story. They had lots of fun acting out the story.

Science – Healthy Eating

November 4, 2015 by admin

As part of our healthy eating topic, Class 5 have learnt all about hand hygiene. We completed an investigation using bread. First the children all touched a piece of bread with dirty hands. They then touched another piece of bread after washing their hands. We then put the bread into a bag and stuck it to the wall to see what happens. The children had lots of sensible predictions. Most thought that the bread that was touch with dirty hands would go mouldy first.

Eco work – Milk Bottle Igloo

November 4, 2015 by admin

We are building an igloo using milk bottles as part of our recycling and eco work. It is difficult to build and has blown down a few times however we have persevered and are nearly there. We can not wait until it is finished so we can play in it.

Maths – Capacity

November 4, 2015 by admin

We have been learning about how to measure liquids and enjoyed investigation work linked with this. We explored different sized containers and put them in order of size. We made a few mistakes as sometimes estimating can be tricky however we managed in the end.

Durham Cathedral

November 4, 2015 by admin

We enjoyed our visit to Durham Cathedral and had a wonderful guided tour. We learned so much about Saint Cuthbert and the story of how Durham Cathedral was built as a resting place for his body. We were shown the stained glass windows and many included our much loved Northern Saints. The saints were inspirational and St Cuthbert was one of the first eco-warriors which is something we strive to be at our school. We did some observational drawing after our lunch and one by passer for overseas commented on how well behaved our children were. A great day…and yummy dinner in the cloisters!
