Class 1 and 2 have had a wonderful experience at the Methodist Church celebrating a special wedding. Lots of preparation has happened in the classroom before the big day, supported by our shared story “When Willy Went to the Wedding.” The children wrote invitations and learned about the key parts of a wedding service. They planned their own wedding reception including making the wedding food and cake and also planning and designing the wedding tables.
Life Cycle of a Chicken
To begin our Life Cycles topic our children have been taking excellent care of our living eggs. They have observed change and learned so much from this experience in school. We had 8 chicks hatch, the children were so gentle and caring with them.
Measure and Capacity
In our maths sessions we have been completing lots of practical work linked with measure and capacity to allow the children to use the key vocabulary they have learned. They have made milkshakes in the snack area and they have been measuring items around the classroom using pasta.
Dental Care
Our children have been learning about how to keep our teeth clean and healthy through our activities and stories. After this they each designed a poster to share this information with others.
Chinese New Year
The story of the ghost lion has captured our children’s imaginations during our Chinese New Year topic. We made our own lion and performed a special lion dance in assembly. The children have tried new foods, learnt how to write some key words in mandarin and have learnt all about the Chinese Zodiac.
Following Instructions
When our new outdoor equipment started arriving the children were very keen to open the boxes and help to build the wheelbarrows. They worked together to look at the pictures on the instructions and used a range of tools safely to join the pieces together. We learned some new vocabulary when using different tools from our toolkit.
Letters to Santa
After reading ‘Santa Post’ the children began writing their own letters during continuous provision time. We worked together to write a shared letter and learned about the important of the envelope, address and stamp. We went on a short journey to our local post office to pay for a stamp and to make sure that the letter arrived safely to Santa Claus.
Polar Express
To immerse the children in our story of the week ‘The Polar Express’ we have had a very special day in school! The children excitedly arrived at school in their pyjamas ready for the conductor to check their golden tickets. They walked along the track and crept through the tunnel into our classroom to see our very own Polar Express! This was a wonderful day in school!
Speed Cones
We have recently had some special visitors in school and they brought some very interesting cones with them! The children had to work with a partner to touch the lights on the cones and turn them off. This was a brilliant game and the children showed excellent physical skills.
Pumpkin Rolling
Reception have had so much fun lately with pumpkins. Our annual pumpkin rolling contest was very much enjoyed. We’ve learnt how to carve pumpkins and written instructions together. We’ve made pumpkin potions outside and had lots of sensory fun with the insides of the pumpkins. Our story of the week ‘Pick a Pumpkin’ was a definite favourite of ours.
