Each school in Durham receives its budget in April and as part of this there is a ‘notional’ SEND amount. This means that school are responsible for funding the first £6000 of support for children with SEND – after which they can request ‘Top Up Funds’ from the Local Authority.
This is usually children with very high needs or who have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP). The school provides a ‘Costed Provision Map’ which details the provision the child is receiving and at what cost to the school. Children who have an EHCP may be allocated additional funds as part of the plan. The use of these funds is discussed when the plan is first initiated and reviewed during the annual review meetings.
At Cockton Hill Infants’ School, our notional SEN budget amounts to £78684.59 for 2017-2018. This is used to support children with SEND by providing extra staffing, resources and training.
If a child has complex special educational needs, we could also receive additional funding from the Local Authority to meet the agreed outcomes. A Costed Provision Map will be developed in liaison with the child, young person, parent or carer.
More information is available within the Durham County Council Local Offer Website.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
