The children in class 5 have been making their very own working robots this week. As part of our STEM and problem solving curriculum the children were tasked with making a robot that could draw a circle with its felt tip legs. After been shown a short demonstration, a number of children were designated as class experts, making video demonstrations of the different aspects of the build. The whole class were then shown these demonstrations. Next the children were asked to work in groups to complete the build. Remarkably the children were able to independently build the robot. They were able to solve a number of problems and modify their build when it wasn’t quite working. The perseverance shown was remarkable from such young children. A number of groups cheered when they were final able to get the robot to work.
