Chinese New Year – Music

We have been listening to a song about Chinese New Year and were given some Chinese instruments to play along with and learned some Chinese words which we sang as part of the song!

Chinese New Year – Food

As part of our Chinese New Year celebrations Class 3 got to try some Chinese food. We had noodles, spring rolls, prawn crackers, sweetcorn and bean sprouts. They were delicious!

Chinese New Year – PE Dance

After watching the Lion Dance we decided we would like to try some other kinds of Chinese Dancing. Here we used ribbons and practised some Chinese Ribbon dancing, where we tried to make our ribbons move in fluid motions.

Art and Design – Designing a Chinese Dragon

In Art this week, Class 3 have been celebrating Chinese New Year by designing and making our very own Chinese Dragons! We made a giant Chinese Dragon just like the one we saw in videos of the parade, and we all got to make our very own mini-dragons!

Science – Material Investigation

In Science we had been thinking about materials and carried out an investigation into which material would make the best house for the Three Little Pigs. We went outside on a very windy day and found that the best house was the brick house because it was strong and heavy. Our stick house was strong as well but because it was light it blew away.

Numeracy – Measuring

In Numeracy this term we have started to look at different methods for measuring. Class 4 were set the challenge of making a chair for Baby Bear that was “just right”. The children used cubes and rules to make sure that the chair was the correct dimensions.

Literacy – Porridge

Our topic in Year 1 this term is Traditional Tales. The first traditional tale that we looked at was the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In Literacy we used this well-known story to link with instruction writing. The children in Class 4 were able to write some simple instructions to Goldilocks to help her make a perfect bowl of porridge. We then made some porridge!

Literacy – Decorating Bears Chairs

In Class 4 we have been learning about how to write instructions. We have decided that the most important thing about instructions is that they are easy to follow. To make sure that our instructions were very clear we worked in groups to set the follow simple instructions. To link with our termly topic of Traditional Tales we wrote and followed instructions to make a perfect chair for Goldilocks to sit on.

Literacy – Acting Three Little Pigs

So far this term we have looked at two different traditional tales; Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs. We are using the story of the Three Little Pigs to help us with our materials learning in Science. As part of our Literacy learning, Class 4 retold the story and performed it to the rest of the class.

Science – Materials

In Science we have been looking at materials. We had a careful look around our school and found lots of different materials which are used. We talked about why these materials had been used and all agreed that glass was the best materials for windows!
