Possible Phased Return

May 11, 2020 by admin

Hello everyone, we hope you are well and continuing to follow the guidelines to keep safe. Last night the government announced that schools may be in a position to re-open on June 1st for pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.

All staff and Governors would like nothing better than to have our school open, our classrooms full and our children being educated. But, our first priority has to be the safety of children and staff.

As today progresses there will be further information from the Government as to how they plan for this return to school to happen. The Governors and senior leaders of the school will be taking advice and guidance from the government, the Local Authority and the Education Unions. Any decisions made about re-opening will be based primarily on keeping pupils and staff safe.

At this moment, nothing has really changed. School is open for the children of key-workers when there is no other option for child-care amongst the immediate family. Children at home will continue to receive home learning activities from their class teacher.

As soon as we have any further detail we will share it with parents and carers.

Ofsted Report

January 21, 2020 by admin

We had our most recent Ofsted inspection just before Christmas 2019 and were delighted with the findings. The inspector spoke at length to children, parents, governors and staff and she really got a clear understanding of what it is to be a child in Cockton Hill Infants’ School.

Bling Your Bikes and Scooters

November 22, 2019 by admin

It was fantastic to see how many children came to school today on their bikes and scooters, all decorated with tinsel, baubles and lights! Mr Raine, who organises this event each year to encourage more active journeys to school, was delighted with the response.

All the children in school and nursery paraded around the playground enthusiastically. Well done, everyone!

Thank you for your donations for the Shoebox Appeal. The children from our school council enjoyed filling the boxes and we were able to take 29 to the Wear Valley Christian Centre where they will be sent on their journey to children in other countries who are in need and will hopefully get joy in receiving them.

Diwali

November 8, 2019 by admin

This week in Reception we have been learning about Diwali – the Hindu festival of light. Throughout the week the children have tried special foods, dressed up and danced to Indian music. The children have listened to the story of Rama, Sita and The Demon King. The children can confidently retell the story remembering that Ravana, the Demon King, had 10 heads, 10 arms and 20 eyes! We compared this story to a non-fiction book called ‘Diwali’ and noticed the differences. We have used chalk and powder paints mixed with water to brush fireworks onto the yard. The children have painted rangoli patterns and made them on the light table with loose parts with superb attention to detail. In the malleable area the children have used clay to make diva lamps. A very busy week!
